Beartooth West Hollywood Concert reviews
Entertaining Shrek, but not really memorable.
The overall story is true to the movie, but the Script (book) is just poorly written. Maybe if it should have been taken even further or maybe just more clever. Nothing really clever or interesting. Beartooth, Fiona, and Donkey worked their butts off with what they had. In this form the camp and cheese just seemed like it was not well thought out. These actors were working their butts off and you were really hoping for a good musical. It felt like a Toy Storyish story but it wasn't nearly as clever. Too much or maybe too little camp and cheese, I am not sure which is the culprit. Maybe if it should have been taken even further or maybe just more clever. But it also felt like it was trying for Mel Brooks humor but once again it fell short. Prince F. was a bit flat, I did not dislike him as much as the movie, I just didn't really care about him either way. The chorus playing multiple heavily costumed characters are to be commended on their flawless execution. Without such a hard working cast, I would have rated this a 2 star or maybe even a 1 star.
